H.O.P.E. Group stands for Helping Other People Everywhere and teaches students about universal design and assistive technology while providing opportunities to make a difference in the world around them.
We will partner with Easter Seals and shadow senior engineering students from UIC as they design assistive technology for people in need. We also have a wonderful liaison in Ms. Kathy McGuire, who works for Molex. Ms. McGuire helped to create the Special Designs for Independence project with the UIC College of Engineering and has visited Benjamin to explain fundamentals of engineering, universal design, and assistive Technology. In addition to learning from these partnerships, H.O.P.E. Group members will attend the UIC Engineering Expo in the spring, where they will see hundreds of engineering projects of UIC seniors.
H.O.P.E. Group will also be making a difference for Benjamin and Evergreen schools this year with various projects. With the completion of the bike path, Benjamin will need to install a bike rack. H.O.P.E. Group will recommend a bike rack to Dr. Ehrhardt that will best fit Benjamin's needs. At Evergreen, a new MakerSpace is in development. H.O.P.E. Group students will design and build an artistic structure to hang on the wall in the MakerSpace that will also serve as a fun way for students to put Legos away after using them.
H.O.P.E. Group is a great place for students to work together, learn about engineering and design, and help other people!
